Batok Inspired Cross Stitch Kits

from $20.00

These cross stitch kits are based on batok, indigenous tattoo motifs from the Philippines, mainly from the Visayas region where yelley’s family is from. Each kit includes:

  • Pattern

  • Embroidery hoop (4 inch, 6 inch, or 8 inch based on kit size)

  • Aida fabric in natural color

  • Pearl cotton 8 in black

  • Tapestry needle (x2 in the large Canoe design kit)

  • Needle threader

  • Backing felt for finishing the hoops for display (small Visayan Flower and medium Crab design kits only, for the large kit a square frame is recommended but not included)

  • Information about the design meanings

A link to a basic cross stitch guide is included in each kit if you are a total beginner to this craft! The designs are very geometric and easy to follow and the pearl cotton thread does not need to be split before use like regular embroidery floss, making these kits beginner friendly.

For more information about batok, I recommend the book Filipino Tattoos Ancient to Modern by Lane Wilcken.
